Performance Notes | "UPROAR AT SOCIALIST MEETING. ALBERT HALL SCENE. Supporters of the Popular Front created a scene at a demonstration in support of the Spanish Government called by the National Council of Labour at the Albert Hall last night. The trouble began when Mr Hugh Dalton MP, used the phrase, "When shall we see with as clear a vision as dictators see?" Instantly came the retort from the body of the hall, "When we have unity." The interruption had a tremendous effect. There was wave after wave of cheering, and Mr Dalton had to wait for it to cease. When he could make himself heard he cried, "We offer you the unity of Socialism and trad unionism" - a remark which was followed by the interjection, "And of Communism and the peace alliance." This was greeted with further cheering. Mr C R Attlee, Leader of the Opposition, said that the shadow of possible war should make the people of Britain realise the position of those who, month after month in Spain, had been beneath that shadow and had felt the horrors of modern war."
