Performance Notes | "There was a full audience in the Albert Hall last evening at an entertainment, the proceeds of which will go to funds for providing comforts and necessaries to sailors and soldiers on active service and for helping Belgian refugees. Sir Arthur Lawley presided, and Mr Herbert Garrison gave an address on 'the World's Greatest War' and its relation to the British Empire, with screen pictures. Mr H L Balfour was at the organ, and Mr Ben Webster recited an ode 'To Belgium', written for the occasion by Mr John R Marsh." (The Times, 4 December 1914)
According to the Daily Telegraph (November 1914) arrangements were made for a contingent of the convalescent wounded of British and Allied armed forces and a party of Chelsea Pensioners to attend. |
