Performance Notes"For upwards of two hours a large audience was entertained by children from the Girls' Village Homes, the Naval Training School, and the Boys' Garden City, representing the varied interests and activities, as well as the industries and recreations, of the Homes.
An interesting feature was the entry into the arena of a number of soldiers, sailors, and discharged Service men, headed by two officers who, like the others, has passed through the Homes to the Services. The Duke of Somerset spent some time chatting to Lieutenant McCallum and Sergeant-Major Hall. The former has been decorated with the Transport medal (an Italian decoration) for bringing up medical supplies; and Sergeant-Major Hall gained the Distinguished Service Medal while serving with the Royal Marines at Antwerp, when he crawled 200 yards under shell and rifle fire to obtain ammunition.
"The Duchess of Somerset received a large umber of purses, and distrubuted badges and bars to members of the League...
A group of Service men's children who are being cared for in the homes marched across the arena, and then there was amarch past of over 500 boys and girls, symbolizing the Empire and the Allies and the various forms of war activity."
