Performance NotesThe Royal British Legion welcomes members of the Royal family, Government Ministers and the public to join in an annual Festival of Remembrance. This annual Festival commemorates and honours all those who have lost their lives in conflicts, and is both a moving and enjoyable experience. The event, held ahead of Remembrance Sunday, held an extra poignancy this year following the centenary of the start of the first world war.

The theme of the Festival was 'A Century of Service and Sacrifice'.

The event was televised on BBC One at 21:10 on 8 November 2014 and highlights were broadcast from 10:00 on BBC Radio 2.

Prime Minister David Cameron accompanied by his wife Samantha Cameron, Liberal Democrat Party Leader Nick Clegg accompanied by his wife Miriam Gonzales and Labour Party Leader Ed Miliband accompanied by his wife Justin Thornton were in attendance.

The Festival was attended by 100 Normandy veterans in a tribute to the 70th anniversary of D Day. One of who took part was Jim Radford, who was 10 when the Second World War broke out in 1939, and went to sea five years later. He is thought to have been the youngest participant in the Allied landing at Arromanches in Normandy where his ship, the Empire Larch, worked on rescue and salvage operations. At 18 he joined the Royal Navy and served nearly eight years. The story of his first trip to sea has been put to music in a song of his own composition, 'The Shores of Normandy'.

The event was recorded and released as a DVD by the Royal British Legion.
