Orchestra or Band | Kamao Quartet (Dave Shulman - clarinet, Dave Kelbie - gypsy guitar, Jean de Talhouet - vocal, guitar, Ruth Goller - double bass) |
Performance Notes | Traditional manouche songs, django reihnardt compositions, original compositions, jazz songs, and brazilian choro music. Fronted by singer and guitarist Jean de Talhouet, the band includes clarinet (Dave Shulman), gypsy guitars (Dave Kelbie), and double bass (Ruth Goller), creating a beautiful and rich sound that complements the vocals with haunting and lyrical harmonies. Their repertoire ranges from hot swinging jazz featuring captivating virtuoso improvisations, to the saddest gypsy ballads, the liveliest waltzes, as well as original compositions. They have performed at various venues including The Vortex Jazz Club, Le Quecumbar, the Green Note, St James Theatre. Manouche music beautifully combines jazz with the warmth and liveliness of the Gyspy culture of Western Europe. |
