Performance Notes | Grammy award-winning country music star Kacey Musgraves made her Royal Albert Hall debut at this Albert Sessions concert.
The American singer-songwriter shot to fame in 2013 with the release of her critically-acclaimed major label debut Same Trailer Different Park an album which won her a Grammy award for Best Country Album in that year. Since then Musgraves has proven herself as one of the country music scenes most distinctive and innovative talents, tackling important, real-life issues in her fiercely witty lyrics.
Kacey sang hits from her debut Grammy Award-winning album Same Trailer Different Park, as well as her 2015 release Pageant Material, including 'Biscuits', 'Follow Your Arrow', 'Cup of Tea', and her first hit 'Merry Go Round'. Interspersed, she covered modern classics including TLCs 'No Scrubs' and Coldplays 'Yellow', rounding off the evening with a rousing rendition of 'These Boots Were Made For Walkin'.
Kacey's band wore raspberry coloured suits with rhinestones and lights in the lapels and trouser legs. Kacey Musgraves wore a rhinestone encrusted basque and cowboy boots.
"Tonights show is just as much on the bucket list, a crazy moment, as it was opening for Kate Perry or duetting with Willie (Nelson). If the only thing I got to do in my career was play a sold-out show at the Royal Albert Hall, I would be totally floored." - Kacey Musgraves.
This concert is part of the Halls Albert Sessions initiative, and will involve a special songwriting session with Kacey for around 50 teenage students from across London who have a particular interest in pursuing careers as musicians and songwriters.
After the show Kacey Musgraves held a Meet and Greet in the backstage Artistes Bar for 70 fans.
The event was filmed by Universal for later release as a DVD. The recording was broadcast at 23:00 on Saturday 4 November 2016 on BBC Four, as 'The Kacey Musgraves Country and Western Rhinstone Revue at the Royal Albert Hall.'
"I can't believe we played a sold out Royal Albert Hall. A crowd as big as my hometown. <3 Thank you so much, London. (Kacey Musgraves, Twitter, 18 November 2015) |
