Performance NotesFollowing the release of her latest album, Pageant Material and as part of her Albert Session at the Hall, Kacey Musgraves lead two sessions for young people, aged 16-18 years, keen to get into the music industry.

Students aged 16-18 years packed out the Elgar Room to hear Kacey talk about her inspirations, her career and her craft. She performed several of her hit songs, and explained the sentiments and techniques behind them. Kacey talked about how she penned her first song, Notice Me, at just nine years old for her elementary school graduation. She started learning the guitar at the age of 12, and began to develop her sound as a country singer.

"When I started, there were either people doing power ballads or angry sassy women singing: ‘I’m going to burn your house down’ and ‘You cheated on me so I’m going to kill you.’ I just wanted to sing about life in a conversational way."
