Performance Notes | Prepare to be amazed as more than 1,500 singers from The Really Big Chorus raise the roof in Verdis Requiem sometimes described as opera without the costumes and certainly one of the most theatrical settings ever of these words.
Its a work of fantastic contrasts, with a truly terrifying musical description of the Day of Judgement in the famous Dies Irae, joyously dancing angels in the Sanctus, and the whispered prayers of sinners on earth in the Agnus Dei.
Four superb soloists drawn from the world of opera will heighten the musical drama: Linda Richardson (soprano), Marta Fontanals-Simmons (mezzo-soprano), Jung Soo Yun (tenor) and Ashley Riches (bass-baritone); with the English Festival Orchestra augmented by off-stage trumpets and a thunderous Verdi bass drum. The whole evening is directed by TRBCs principal conductor, Brian Kay. |
