Performance NotesJohn Wilson and his orchestra return to pay tribute to George and Ira Gershwin, one of America’s most celebrated song-writing duos, with favourites including Embraceable You, Love Walked In, Fascinatin’ Rhythm and the ballet music from the 1951 film An American in Paris.

Broadcast live on BBC Two.

"This glorious concert reached its climax with the immaculately executed ballet sequence from An American in Paris. The strings really did seem to be dancing. ...One of the emotional highlights came when Ira was teamed with Harold Arlen on The Man That Got Away. Wilson's singers always face the awkward challenge of playing second fiddle to the orchestra, but Louise Dearman's stunning nuanced reading undoubtedly banished the ghost of Judy Garland. Matthew Ford and Julian Ovenden made an insouciant pairing on 'S Wonderful while the Maida Vale Singers helped to lift Strike up the Band to boisterous new heights."
