The beloved comic actor Dudley Moore (1935-2002) was furthermore not only one of the UK's most dazzling and swinging jazz pianists but also a composer of wit and depth. A true accompanist and big band pianist, rising to prominence in appearances and recordings with the Johnny Dankworth Orchestra, he then led an outstanding trio on stage, in clubs and concert halls and latterly on TV. Following their acclaimed Hoagy project, featuring the life and music of Hoagy Carmichael, the Chris Ingham Quartet revisit Moore's music on their new CD "Dudley"with sounds from the fabulous 1960s trio albums, the groundbreaking satirical revue Beyond The Fringe (1960-64), the TV show Not Only But Also (1965-1970) and the brilliant movie soundtracks for Bedazzled (1967) and 30 Is A Dangerous Age, Cynthia (1968). |
