The Chorões quartet present a lunchtime of traditional Brazilian Choro music. The band formed in 2015 when studying at the Royal College of Music, and have since performed in venues around the UK including The Southbank Centre and St Johns Chapel for the Festival of Chichester.
Choro music developed in the late 19th century in Rio de Janeiro and grew in popularity throughout Brazil in the early 20th century. It comes from the combined influence of European classical music and rhythmical Afro-Brazilian music and dances, and is characterised by its virtuosic melodies, syncopated rhythms and unique instrumental sound. |
