Performance NotesMark Radcliffe and Julie Fowlis host the 2017 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards – the annual ceremony that celebrates and rewards the very best in folk, roots and acoustic music.

Radio 2’s Folk Awards is one of the jewels in the network’s musical calendar, and is now in its 18th year. Alongside the announcement of the winners by an array of guest presenters, there will also be live performances from new and established artists including Al Stewart, Afro Celt Sound System and Billy Bragg.Expect very special collaborations, and magical musical moments, from some of the most exciting artists in the folk world.

The event was broadcast live on BBC Radio 2 and made available online via the Radio 2 website, BBC iPlayer and the Red Button service.

No under 18s unless accompanied by an adult.

The Folk Awards will feature a specially curated performance dedicated to victims of enforced child migration, called 'The Ballads of Child Migration'. The piece tells the story that between 1863 and 1970, over 100,000 children were sent from Britain without parents and without choice to supposed new lives in Australia and Canada. Featuring the voices of former child migrants, narration by Barbara Dickson and original songs performed by Kris Drever, Jez Lowe, While & Matthews, Boo Hewerdine, O'Hooley and Tidow, John McCusker, Andy Cutting and Mike McGoldrick.
