Performance Notes | As part of the Halls Summer of Love: Revisited series, Classic Album Sundays Colleen Murphy and singer-songwriter Laura Mvula will discuss the victories and challenges of female soul, jazz and rock musicians who broke down social and cultural barriers during the sixties. Music from these revolutionary artists will be played on vinyl on the CAS audiophile hi-fi, featuring Audio Note UK and Klipschorns.
Featured artists: Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone, Joni Mitchell, Tina Turner, Janis Joplin, Gladys Knight, Dusty Springfield, The Supremes and Dionne Warwick.
Vocalist, songwriter and composer Laura Mvula gained widespread recognition for her critically-acclaimed studio albums Sing to the Moon (2013) and The Dreaming Room (2016). A Birmingham Conservatoire alumni, double Mercury Prize nominee Mvula is one of the most exciting musical talents to come out of the UK in recent years.
Her striking vocals and unpredictable compositions have drawn comparisons to Nina Simone and Prince, and her live performances have captivated audiences from Glastonburys Pyramid Stage to the BBC Proms.
