Performance NotesAs part of Summer of Love: Revisited, Classic Album Sundays’ Colleen Murphy and Soul II Soul’s Jazzie B discuss how black musicians and producers inspired new musical genres, and became entrepreneurs in the face of racial adversity. Music from these revolutionary artists will be played on vinyl on the CAS audiophile hi-fi, featuring Audio Note UK and Klipschorns.

Featured artists and producers: James Brown, Curtis Mayfield, Isaac Hayes, Marvin Gaye, George Clinton, Berry Gordy, Sir Coxsone Dodd and Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry. Soul II Soul was founded in London in the late 80s and quickly became one of the most important sound-systems in the country and the world, selling over 10 million albums worldwide. Founder Jazzie B co-wrote and produced a series of tracks with the Godfather of Soul himself, James Brown, and produced artists such as Teena Marie and Cheryl Lynn.

In 2008, Jazzie was awarded an OBE for services to music by Her Majesty the Queen. In the same year, he was awarded the inaugural Ivor Novello Award for inspiration. When it was presented to Jazzie, the announcer described him as ‘the man who gave British black music a soul of its own.’

Classic Album Sundays is one of the most popular and respected music listening experiences, allowing music fans to get as close as possible to the artist’s original intent. Attendees hear the intriguing story behind an album or song that was a cultural milestone, before kicking back to listen to the record on a world-class audiophile hi-fi system. These immersive listening sessions are a transformative and inspirational shared experience, reminding people what they love about music.

The event was live streamed on Facebook.
