Set List | The Nutcracker (Birmingham Royal Ballet, Simon Callow) |
Performance Notes | For the first time ever, Birmingham Royal Ballet brings this Christmas favourite to the Royal Albert Hall. This magical ballet, with its ravishing Tchaikovsky score, is the quintessential Christmas treat for all the family.
We join Clara in the Victorian setting of her family home. As midnight strikes, the Christmas tree grows and grows, and Claras nutcracker doll and his army of toy soldiers come to life. Clara is swept away through a winter wonderland of dancing snowflakes to the magical kingdom of the Sugar Plum Fairy.
The spectacular staging has been created especially for the Royal Albert Hall with Simon Callow as the voice of Claras mysterious godfather, Drosselmeyer. Video and projection by Tony-Award-winning 59 Productions (An American in Paris, War Horse) and gorgeous period costumes conjure up a spellbinding fantasy world, in which Birmingham Royal Ballets 70 superb dancers and a full symphony orchestra weave their magic.
