Sloth Racket are a quintet of UK-based improvisers, led by baritone saxophonist Cath Roberts, with Anton Hunter on guitar, Sam Andreae on tenor sax, Seth Bennett on bass and Johnny Hunter on drums.
The group perform Caths compositions, combining written fragments with graphic notation to explore the balance between freedom and structure. The results range across musical territories, from fiery free jazz to minimal improv textures, to deep grooves.
Originally formed for a commission at Gateshead International Jazz Festival in 2015, Sloth Racket have since performed all around the UK, including at the acclaimed Brighton Alternative Jazz Festival and as part of EFG London Jazz Festival. They have released two albums on the Luminous label Triptych (2016) and Shapeshifters (2017), with a third planned for Summer 2018. |
