Performance Notes | Soprano Diana Damrau joins Vasily Petrenko and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra for a concert that moves from the lush, late-Romantic soundscapes of Strausss songs and the sweeping melodic generosity of Elgars Italy-inspired overture In the South to the leaner, more percussive intensity of Bartóks Concerto for Orchestra a virtuosic showcase for the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.
The concert also includes the world premiere of Iain Bells concerto for coloratura soprano and orchestra, Aurora, composed especially for Damrau and commissioned by the BBC.
A very appreciative audience who gave a standing ovation at the end.
Diana Damrau, the advertised soprano, has had to withdraw owing to illness. The BBC Proms is grateful to Miah Persson and Adela Zaharia for taking her place at short notice. |
