Performance NotesFollowing the sold-out success of Brassed Off Live at the Royal Albert Hall in May 2017, we’re delighted to announce that we’re taking the show on tour!

Brassed Off, Mark Herman’s 1996 bittersweet comedy drama was nominated for three BAFTAs and was included in the BFI’s definitive top 100 British films list.

Now more fans can relive this piece of British cinema history like never before, with screenings of the film featuring live accompaniment from the Grimethorpe Colliery Band, whose story was the inspiration behind Brassed Off, coming to Gateshead, Leeds and Birmingham throughout 2018:

Opera North (Millenium Square), Leeds - 29 July 2018
Symphony Hall, Birmingham - Friday 7 September 2018
Sage, Gateshead - Saturday 8 December 2018

The Brassed Off Live premiere, held at the Hall in 2017, was one of the year’s most cherished film experiences, with the emotional story of a brass band who refused to be defeated being warmly received by a sold-out auditorium, which included many of the film’s cast and crew.

Starring Ewan McGregor, Jim Carter, Stephen Tompkinson and Tara Fitzgerald, Brassed Off tells the story of the Grimley Colliery Band as they attempt to get into the Brass Band National Finals at the Royal Albert Hall amidst the threat of pit closure. It was based on the real-life story of the Grimethorpe Colliery Band – we caught up with band director Peter Haigh, ahead of the Hall screening to find out how true to life the film was.
