Performance Notes | Familiar to millions from several TV commercials, the powerful opening chorus of Carl Orffs Carmina Burana sets the scene for a work depicting life in all its glory and misery. O Fortuna is a hymn to the fickle goddess Fortune; this and the texts which follow may be medieval, but their sentiments love, rejection, corruption, beauty are decidedly modern. This, coupled with the instant appeal of Orffs music, ensures that Carmina Burana maintains its place as one of the worlds most popular choral pieces.
Complementing 1,000-plus voices of The Really Big Chorus, will be the English Festival Orchestra which will also perform Waltons Spitfire Prelude & Fugue, Handels Music for the Royal Fireworks and Elgars Pomp & Circumstance March no. 1.
Brian Kay will be directing. |
