Orchestra or Band | Shanghai Symphony Orchestra |
Set List | 'Wu Xing (The Five Elements)', Qigang Chen, 'Piano Concerto No.23 in A Major'', Mozart INTERVAL 'Symphonic Dances', Rachmaninov |
Performance Notes | The Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Long Yu make their first appearance at the Proms.
They are joined by Eric Lu, winner of the 2018 Leeds International Piano Competition, for Mozarts Piano Concerto No. 23 with its quasioperatic humour and wistful slow movement.
The programme also includes Chinese composer Qigang Chens evocative tone-poem The Five Elements and Rachmaninovs triptych of Symphonic Dances: a passionate Allegro, an uneasy waltz and, finally, a ferocious dance of death. |
