Performance Notes | "His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh presided at a meeting of the members of the orchestra of this society which was held in the West Theatre on Friday evening last. Sir Julius Benedict, Sir Henry Cole, Sir Coutts Lindsay, Mr Arthur Sullivan, Mr Frederic Clay, and Mr Alan Cole, as representing the council of the society, were present, and took part in the proceedings, which consisted chiefly in receiving report upon the working of the orchestra, drawn up by the orchestral sub-committee, of which Mr George Mount, the conductor, is the chairman, and Mr G Foster Cooke, the secretary.
The orchestral committe for the ensuing season was elected by the members present, and after a few words from his royal highness congratulating the orchestra upon the successful issue of the season just concluded, the formal business of the evening was brought to a close. A selection of music was played by a few of the leading members, in the performance of which the Duke of Edinburgh, Sir Julius Benedict and Mr Arthur Sullivan assisted. The members separated shortly after half past eleven o'clock.
We are requested to make known that examinations for the admission of new members to the orchestra will shortly be held, and that intending candidates should apply for forms of application at the Royal Albert Hall." (Morning Post 10 May 1875) |
