| Performance Notes | Best known for her protest song Kelmti Horra (My Word is Free), which became an anthem for the Tunisian revolution and the Arab spring, Emel's singular style is a mix of North African sounds and modern electronic production.
Her first two albums were released in 2012 and 2017 respectively to considerable critical acclaim, and she performed at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in 2015. Her third full-length album, Everywhere We Looked Was Burning, released last year, strikes a balance between eloquent songcraft, sparse instrumentation, and the voices of the woods, wind, sea, and flames as the Tunisia-born and New York-based singer heralds revolution.
