Performance NotesThe multi-award-winning double-bassist, bandleader, music arranger and educator, Gary Crosby OBE, is hailed by many as the 'Godfather of British Jazz'. He was a founder member of the Jazz Warriors and bandleader of Gary Crosby's Nu Troop and Jazz Jamaica. In 1991, Crosby and his life and business partner, Janine Irons MBE, set out on a mission to address the under-representation of black communities and women in jazz on and off the stage. Crosby is founder of the Nu Civilisation Orchestra comprising TW alumni. He was awarded an OBE for Services to Music in 2009 and The Queen's Medal for Music 2018 in July 2019.

In celebration of the Centenary of Charlie Parker, Gary Crosby will be playing five tunes written by the late, great saxophonist and composer. Each tune is a duet between Gary and a Warrior guest, a budding next-gen, featuring accompaniment by musicians also from their acclaimed Young Artist Development Programme.

Tomorrow's Warriors is a pioneering talent development agency, creative producer, educator, charity and consultancy specialising in jazz. Since inception, through its development, outreach and recruitment, the organisation has directly impacted over 10,000 young people aged 11-25 outside of traditional formal education with a focus on black musicians, young women and those facing socio-economic barriers. We are delighted to present this very special set as part of our season of at-home gigs.
