Performance NotesBehind closed door filming of leading LGBT club night Glitterbox.

To accompany the release of their new nightlife documentary 'Where Love Lives', Glitterbox streamed a unique three-part premiere event from the Royal Albert Halll.

The Glitterbox team transformed the auditorium for one night only into a club stage bedecked with disco lights, mirror balls and a catwalk fit for their troupe of club kids, drag queens and go-go dancers.

On Thursday 18 March, this free virtual extravaganza began to be streamed online via YouTube at 16:00 with DJ sets from Melvo Baptiste, Jellybean Benitez and Dimitri From Paris, followed by the world premiere of Where Love Lives and closing with a two-hour after-party with DJ sets from Natasha Diggs and Fat Tony.

London-based DJs Melvo Baptiste and Fat Tony were streamed from the Hall's auditorium, while disco royalty Dimitri From Paris’ set was be streamed from Paris, Jellybean Benitez’ from Miami, and Natasha Diggs’ from Brazil, making this a truly global and COVID-safe coming together of DJ talent.

Moving seamlessly from world-class DJ sets into film premiere, the event used YouTube’s new Live Redirect technology to combine Glitterbox’s unmistakable soundtrack of house and disco music with the film’s launch, broadcasting the whole event completely free to nightlife lovers around the world.

In addition pre-filming took place, with the help of Defected and Glitterbox, with presenter Gok Wan who filmed a three-hour DJ set which was later used on 20 March 2021 at 23:30 as the Comic Relief's Red Nose Day afterparty. The DJ set was broadcast as the 'Red Nose Rave' on the Comic Relief Facebook Live and YouTube channels after the Red Nose Day BBC One night of TV, as well as Defected and Gok Wan's own Facebook Live and YouTube channels. The afterparty was inspired by Gok Wan's Isolation Nation kitchen raves, which he started in April 2020, with the goal to lift the UK's spirits for a few hours of fun, uninterrupted entertainment and to provide a sense of community when people needed it during the Covid-19 lockdowns.
