Performance Notes | This was the very first Good Friday performance of Handel's Messiah by the Royal Choral Society "There was a large attendance at the Albert Hall at the evening performance of Handel's orataorio, 'The Messiah'. The weather proving somewhat unfavourable for out-of-door excursions, those among the holiday makers who possessed a partiality for music , and were present at the performance, must have enjoyed themselves in a rational and quiet manner. The various sections of the Hall were well patronised, the numbers of occupants of the seats increasing as the price decreased. The several portions of the sublime masterpiece of Handel were apparently keenly relished, although there was less applause than might be expected considering all things."
