| Performance Notes | The Society for Promoting Female Welfare was founded by Dean Goode in 1866 with the mission of banding together all associations for promoting the welfare of respectable Protestant women. The Duchess of Connaught and the Princess Mary, Duchess of Teck were patronesses of the Society. Annual sales of these organisations handicrafts were showcased at the Royal Albert Hall from 1878-1914 on the Arena floor.
"Some seventy or wighty institutions of various classes belong to the organisation, and as each exhibiting society is permitted to retain the profits of its own stall there is a distinct inducement to make its display as attractive as possible. Business was brisk, despite the announcement that "no raffles of lotteries are permitted." The stallholders included the Countess of Harrowby (President of the Society), Lady Aitchison, Lady Elizabeth Biddulph, Lady Edith Ashley, and the Hon. Mrs Robert Herbet; while the Ladies Bernard controlled the flower-stall. During the afternoon Dr C W Pearce gave a recital on the great organ, and students of Trinity College, London, contributed some excellent vocal and insturmental music."
