Performance Notes | The event was held in order to bring forward yearly the best work done by the classes which were carried on in connection with the HAIA for teaching the working classes the minor arts. Exhibits consisted of wood-carving, inlaying, metal work, pottery, baskets, hammered iron, hand-spun linen and woollen fabrics, embroidery, smocking, plain needlework, knitting , and embossed and cut leather work.
The gold cross (highest award of merit) was won by a class at St Gabriel's, Pimlico for a box of American walnut designed by Miss M de Grey and inlaid by Mr John Reason. On show were a piano seat of which the leather portion was executed by HRH The Princess of Wales (during a visit to her Alexandra Technical School, Sandringham), a cut leather blotter made by HRH The Princess Maud, and a carved leather seat partially made by HRH The Princess Victoria.
