The Society for Promoting Female Welfare was founded by Dean Goode in 1866 with the mission of banding together all associations for promoting the welfare of respectable Protestant women. The Duchess of Connaught and the Princess Mary, Duchess of Teck were patronesses of the Society. Annual sales of these organisations handicrafts were showcased at the Royal Albert Hall from 1878-1914 on the Arena floor.
