Performance NotesThirty-First Annual Conference.
According to a review in The Daily Telegraph, 17 November 1897, Lord Salisbury discussed foreign and domestic policy and the local government of London in front of an audience of over 10,000 people. They included the Countess of Derby, Countess Cadogan, Lady Llangattock, Lady Fardell, and Mrs Smith-Barry.
"...there can be no doubt that the "mass meeting" held last night in the Royal Albert Hall will ever remain as a memorable event in the annals of that powerful organisation. When filled to the utmost extent of its holding capacity, Kensington's great concert-room must needs present a striking spectacle, but upon such an occassion as that which borught to its doors, to hear the Marquis of Salisbury, a vast and eager multitude imbued with a spirit of unrestrained enthusiasm, and responsive to every appeal made to their convictions and sentiments, the building becomes additionally impressive."
