Performance Notes"...the great building in South Kensington was none too large, and the seats in all parts were crowded. The hall presented a very brilliant appearance, for the summer sunshine had tempted the ladies to don the newest and lightest of dresses, while the flower-trimmed hats added much to the brightness of the picture. Then, again, geraniums, marguerites, hydrangeas, and countless gay blooms nestling amid cool greenery bordered the platform, while the places at the top of the orchestra allotted to the chorus were tranformed into an over-arching bower of palms and Japanese maples."
(The Daily Telegraph, 8 June 1898)

The newspaper also reported that Lady Emily Kingscote and Major-General Sir Stanley Clark were present as were the Earl of Lathom, Lord and Lady Leigh, Lord and Lady Skelmersdale, the Earl and Countess Amherst, Lord and Lady Llangattock, Viscount Templetown, Mr Beach MP, Mr E Letchworth (Grand Secretary) and Rev H A Hebb (Headmaster). Programmes were printed by the boys in the school.
