Resolution - "That this meeting heartily supports the policy of preferential trade within the Empire, not only as between the Mother Country and the Colonies but also as between colony and colony; being convinced that such a system would augment production everywhere, furnish increased means of employment for the workers, encourage our emigrants ti settle under the flag, enlarge and secure our markets, and thus minister to the prosperity, the strength, and the closer unity of the Empire. Further, this meeting recognises the statesmanlike spirit in which the Governments of the Colines have approached this Imperial question, welcomes the practical steps they have already taken, realises that preference to be fair must be mutual, and trusts they will continue their efforts till the policy they recommend becomes settled policy of the whole Empire" (Mr Austin Chamberlain, seconded - Mr Chaplin),
