Performance NotesThis reception was held to celebrate Mr Chamberlain's 73d birthday and given to the vice-presidents of the Tariff Reform League by Mrs James Buchanan, of Lavington Park, Petworth.

According to The Times (9 July 1909) approxiamately 2,500 invited guests attended this reception. Among them were the Duke of Argyll, Lady Donegall, Lord Kintore, Lord and Lady Malmesbury, Lord and Lady Ranfurly, Lord Aylesford, Lord and Lady Dartrey, Lord Hardwicke, Lord Londesborough, Lord Strathmore, Lord Bathurst, Lord and Lady Lindsay, Lord and Lady Clancarty, Lord Sondes, Lord Hill, Lord Hood, Lord Galway, Lord Hardinge, Lord Midleton, Lord and Lady Morpeth, Lord Tredegar, Lord Deerhurst, Lord Mexborough, Lord Alington, Lord Ampthill, Lord Farquhar, Lord Eystace Cecil, Lord Clifford of Chudleigh, Lady Edward Churchill, Lord Forester, Lord Orenfell, Lord Hyde, Lord Llangattock, Lord orthcliffe, Lord Norton, Lord Templemore, and Lord A Thynne.

There were also several Members of Parliament in attendance including Mr Bonar Law.
