Performance Notes | "Mr Horatio Bottomley, MP was the principal speaker at the Albert Hall, on Saturday afternoon, at a meeting, held to inaugurate the People's League, which is described as 'A Union of the masses of the nation as citizens, consumers, and taxpayers.' Mr Bottomley said that the league might be described as the League of the People who pay the bill. It was designed to focus into one great comprehensive organization, non-political, non-sectarian, non-party of course, all the effort, all the sacrifice, all the sufferings, and all the fruits of victory which have followed them in the last five years of war." (The Times, 12 May 1919)
Horation Bottomley MP criticised the financial terms of the Peace Treaty, and urged that the cost of the war should be recovered from the 'enemy' (Germany). |
