Performance Notes | Headline:- "Our Bolshevists - Wild Talk in the Albert Hall" 'A demonstration, organized by the National hand Off Russia Committee and the Communist Party of Great Britain to celebrate the third anniversary of the Russian Soviet Republic was held in the Albert hall last night, when resolutions were passed congratulating the Soviet Government, protesting against the present policy of the British Government towards Russia and calling upon the National Council of Action to send an ultimatum to the Government declaring that, unless the Government raised the blockade, abstained from all interference in Russian affairs, established full trading relations, and recognised the Soviet Government by a specified date, the Council of Action should call for a National 'Down Tools' policy.' The following morning the home of C L Malone MP was raided by the police and on 19 November was charged under Regulation 42 of the Defence of the Realm Regulations with having on 7 November, at this event in his speech committed an act likely to cause sedition and disaffection among the civilian population.
'Mr C L Malone, MP, will be brought before the magistrate at Bow Street police court at 10 o'clock this morning. He will be charged on counts based on his speech at the Albert Hall last Sunday.' (The Times, 12 November 1920) |
