"JEWS AND PALESTINE MASSACRES. SCENES AT ALBERT HALL PROTEST MEETING. LORD MERLCHETT ATTACKS ADMINISTRATION. Amazing scenes were witnessed last night at the Albert Hall, at which the English Zionist movement held a meeting to voice "the feeling and indignation at the massacre of Jews in Palestine." Long after the hall, which holds easily 10,000 people, was filled, thousands of excited and gesticulating Jews from all parts of London clamoured at the eight doors for admission. As fast as the police dealt with one rush another surging crowd made its appearance. Clothes were torn and headgear battered. People with tickets had the greatest of difficulty in obtaining an entrance. Many people fainted in the crush. At the request of the police the entrances to the hall were locked half and hour before the meeting was timed to begin. Free fights occurred, and intruders were summarily ejected. Lord Melchett, who presided, and his party had to struggle to gain admission. the pressure was later relieved to some extent by open-air demonstrations organised outside the hall." |
