Performance Notes | A musical interpretation of the H G Wells' classic novel. "The large-scale show is somewhere between a rock concert and very large-scale theatre," Wayne said, noting that the plan is to have five Martian Fighting Machines as tall as 30 feet, as well as a Martian Handling and Flying machine, the Thunder Child frigate and a number of other special effects.
The show will follow the album and additionally include a prequel that shows Mars suffering from severe ecological problems that force the Martians to leave the planet. Richard Burton's original performance will again be brought back to life with state-of-the-art technology.
Since its original release in June of 1978, Jeff Waynes Musical Version of The War Of The Worlds has grown into a true classic; attracting a new generation of devoted followers whilst still inspiring the faithful listeners from the past decades.
Inspired by the HG Wells novel, the album features a compelling blend of prog rock and classical and literary influences, coupled with a spell-binding narrative performance from Richard Burton as The Journalist, and outstanding performances by some of the biggest artists of the 70s, including David Essex, Justin Hayward, Phil Lynott and Julie Covington.
The album has enjoyed huge success and critical acclaim across the globe with sales before its relaunch of over 13 million records sold and numerous accolades including two Ivor Novello Awards, and the USA Best Recording in Science Fiction and Fantasy which included Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and Alfred Hitchcock amongst the judging panel. |
