| Performance Notes | Peace One Day call for and work towards a day of ceasefire and non-violence globally. The concert was to raise awareness, which in turn creates action and action save lives. As well as being a musical celebration of peace, the events was an opportunity to thank all their supporters, highlight the extraordinary global Peace Day activities and promote the coming year. Peace One Day began as a film project founded by British filmmaker Jeremy Gilley in 1999 to establish the first ever annual day of global ceasefire and non-violence. In 2001 the Day was unanimously adopted by UN member states as 21 September annually - Peace Day. In 2007 over 100 million people were active on Peace Day, in 192 countries. There were life-saving initiatives in 14 countries, and over 80 activities in Afghanistan alone where 1.4 million children were vaccinated against polio.
The concert included specially filmed pieces from Jude Law, David Beckham, Lord David Puttnam, and HM Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan. |
