Performance Notes | The first of two matinee appearances by the flamboyantly postmodern, genre-bending artist, equally at home on a Hammond, a Wurlitzer, a software-reliant virtual pipe organ or a monumental acoustic instrument.
Cameron Carpenter made his UK solo debut at the Royal Albert Hall in 2008. His set then included an improvised sonata based on great British television themes. In his two consecutive afternoon concerts he concentrates on J. S. Bach, combining original works with transgressive transformations, not forgetting his own improvisational tribute to the master.
Introduced from the stage by BBC Radio 3 presenter Christopher Cook and broadcast live on BBC Radio 3. |
