Performance NotesFollowing her stunning appearance last year at the Royal Albert Hall for the Dionne Warwick and Friends Concert, BBC broadcaster and vocalist, Jumoké Fashola brings her eclectic Jazz Verse Jukebox to the Elgar Room, Royal Albert Hall, London (as part of the Inspired Word Series) on Friday 5th July 2013, with special guests Anthony Joseph, Inua Ellams, John Siddique and Carrie Grant.

Jazz and performance poetry have been intertwined for decades and for this special Jazz Verse Jukebox, established spoken word poets and singers, will continue this age-old tradition, and explore through performance what it means to be a 21st century ‘modern day griot’ with influences from the four corners of the globe.

Anthony Joseph, is a Trinidadian-born poet, novelist and musician whose written work and performance fuses his Caribbean background with an experimental aesthetic; singer Carrie Grant, is best known for her work as Vocal Coach on the television talent contests Fame Academy, Comic Relief does Fame Academy and Pop Idol and being a regular reporter for BBC 1's The One Show. She will be performing her own original material.

Inua Ellams - a poet & playwright (The National Theatre), whose style is as influenced by classic literature as it is by hip hop, by Keats as it is by MosDef. Rooted in a love for rhythm and language, he crosses 18th century romanticism & traditional story telling with contemporary diction and musicality. John Siddique, the bestselling author of Full Blood, Recital - An Almanac, Poems From A Northern Soul, and The Prize has been described as one most influential British writers of South Asian heritage.

All this, plus live Jazz and accompaniment from the Jazz Verse Jukebox Quartet which features Simon Wallace on Piano, Oli Hayhurst on Double Bass, Winston Clifford on Drums and Richard Olatunde Baker on percussion. Hosted by and with music from the Jazz Verse Jukebox creator Jumoké Fashola.

The event was filmed by the artist for their own archive.
