Performance Notes | Bachs Mass in B minor was the composers last major work: the apotheosis of an entire career. Monumental in size and scope, a musical statement of faith that takes listeners from penitence and prayer to redemption and ecstatic rejoicing, it sits alongside Mozarts Requiem, Beethovens Missa solemnis and Bachs own Passions as one of the greatest sacred works in the repertoire.
Award-winning conductor John Butt, whose all-Bach Prom in 2019 was hailed as astonishing, directs the period-instrument Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and a team of leading soloists. |
