Performance Notes | Rhythm the strut of the tango, the explosive mambo, propulsive jigs and reels, even the swell of the sea sets the pulse of this concert racing.
Joining the Royal Scottish National Orchestra under Music Director Thomas Søndergård, and fresh from her Grammy-winning recording, Nicola Benedetti brings Wynton Marsaliss Violin Concerto to the Proms for the first time, with its electrifying fusion of the American bandleaders jazz influences and the Scottish folk music of the violinists homeland.
American jazz is also the starting point for the technicoloured brilliance of Bernsteins West Side Story and the sardonic First Suite from Thomas Adèss scandalous opera Powder Her Face. |
