Performance Notes | Following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on 8 September 2022, as a mark of respect, this concert was cancelled and the Hall closed to all public. The Hall was then closed for planned maintenance for a week from 11-16 September 2022.
The Prommers for Musical Charities and a number of regular Prommers congregated on the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Steps at 15:00 for a small, respectful celebration in honour of the death of the Queen as well as to celebrate the 2022 BBC Proms season. Some songs were sung, and bunches of carnations, which would have been used to make buttonholes for the orchestra and chorus. were laid on the commemorative pavement stone.
BBC Director General, Tim Davie, addressing the Royal Television Society conference on 27 September 2022 said: "Last Night of the Proms was the most finely balanced one. In the day the Premier League had come off [TV]. We were a little worried about broadcast trucks, there was an enormous amount to cover. That was a 50/50 call [taking Last Night of The Proms off air], we probably made the right decision, but you could argue it either way. |
