| Performance Notes | Over 1,5000 members of the Working Men's Club and Institute Union were given a tour and lecture of the Royal Albert Hall. The lecturer, Mr Edward Hall FSA explained not only the construction of the Hall, but also the aim and scope of the undertaking, and of the relations of the then proposed exhibitions with the development of art, science, and industry. The visit was accommodated in the gallery and a small platform, backed by screens on which were placed various sections and diagrams of the building, was set up at one end. The defective acoustics were spoken about and the new velarium, designed by Col. Henry DY Scott RE was highlighted, but not yet in place. (The Observer, 23 April 1871) |
