Riya Hamie
Cellist Riya Hamie, 17, is a Royal College of Music Junior Department (RCMJD) student. She was selected as one of eight LPO Junior Artists in 2020/21 and became a member of the National Youth Orchestra in 2021; she was the co-principal cellist in 2022 and the principal cellist in the NYO winter concert at the Barbican in January 2022. She has won multiple prizes at the RCMJD under the tutelage of Michal Kaznowski including Majorie Humby Competition, Barbara Boissard Junior Concerto and the prestigious Peter Morrison Senior Concerto Competition. She plays a Panormo cello, on loan from the Benslow Trust.

Berniya Hamie
Berniya Hamie, 20, studies piano with Dina Parakhina and cello with Hélène Dautry at the Royal College of Music on a full scholarship as an ABRSM scholar. She was one of six Tabor Piano Ambassadors for the Leeds International Piano Competition in 2021. She studied at the RCMJD from 2014 until 2020, winning multiple prizes, and gave a sold-out solo recital in the Royal Albert Hall’s Elgar Room in 2019.

Riya and Berniya are members of the Astatine Trio – First Prize winners of the 2022 Senior Intercollegiate Piano Trio Competition and the International Virtuoso & Belcanto Chamber Competition in Italy, where they were selected to perform in a masterclass with legendary pianist Alfred Brendel and were then invited to continue working with him privately. Most recently the trio were awarded joint first prize at the Birmingham International Piano Chamber Music Competition in November 2022.
