Performance Notes | Trevor Nelson presents a night of music to mark the 75th anniversary of Windrush and celebrate the impact of Caribbean culture on British life.
This one-off concert will feature an array of guest stars, including Craig David, Beverley Knight, R&B group Loose Ends, saxophonist YolanDa Brown, calypsonian Tobago Crusoe, G-folk pioneer Hak Baker and award-winning author and poet Salena Godden. Accompanied by the Chineke! Orchestra conducted by Chris Cameron.
The concert will capture the breadth of musical influence which the Windrush generation has had on British culture over the last 75 years, with performances including Loose Ends Hangin on a String, Hak Bakers Windrush Baby, and Craig Davids Fill Me In, as well as renditions of classic tracks like Lord Kitcheners London is the Place for Me, Bob Marleys Is this Love, and Goldies Inner City Life.
The concert will be broadcast on BBC Radio 2, on Sunday 18 June, as part of the BBCs programming to mark the Windrush anniversary.
This concert is in association with the Windrush 75 network. Patrick Vernon, convenor of the Windrush 75 network said: "When those first Windrush pioneers arrived off the boat at Tilbury in 1948, few would have thought that 75 years later their contribution to Britain would be celebrated at the Royal Albert Hall. Black Britons have brought so much to UK music and every other area of culture and public life."
