| Performance Notes | The 2023 BBC Proms season gets off to a whirlwind start with a series of Nordic delights from Griegs passionate Piano Concerto to Sibeliuss rousing statement of national identity, Finlandia. Brittens The Young Persons Guide to the Orchestra introduces each section of the orchestra from strings to timpani and is packed with earworms for all ages.
Plus, a world premiere and BBC commission from Ukrainian composer, Bohdana Frolyak of 'Let There Be Light'.
The event was broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and BBC television.
At 20:39 there was a stage invasion by two protesters from environmental movemenet Just Stop Oil. Minimal disruption, and the Proms restarted at 20:42. The protest took place duirng a presenter link and therefore did not appear on the live TV broadcast.
At 17:40. there was also a single peaceful protester on the South Steps, protesting Copyright law. |
