| Performance Notes | Switzerlands longest-established orchestra, the Tonhalle Orchestra Zürich, makes a welcome return to the Proms with Tchaikovskys passionate Violin Concerto (featuring soloist August Hadelich) and Dvoráks nostalgic New World Symphony, drawing on the African American and Native American melodies he heard during his three years as director of New Yorks National Conservatory for Music.
The evening opens with Beethovens The Consecration of the House, a heartfelt homage to the composers musical forefathers, Handel and Bach.
