Amalia Beeko is a 17-year-old clarinettist with a passion for playing works by under-represented composers. Amalia started playing the clarinet at the age of eight with Sam Miles, and joined the Royal College of Music Junior Department at the age of 10, where she studied clarinet with Jessie Grimes. Amalia currently studies with Anna Hashimoto, and is supported by the Wolfson Music Award. She has achieved significant successes in RCM competitions Amalia was Highly Commended in the RCMJD Gordon Turner competition in 2022 and 2023 and she was Highly Commended in the RCMJD Peter Morrison Competition in 2022. A former member of the National Childrens Orchestra, Amalia became an LPO Junior Artist in the 2021-22 season.
Amalia attends The Grey Coat Hospital School, where she leads and arranges music for the Senior Gospel Choir and is soprano in the Chamber Choir. She is currently principal clarinettist of the London Schools Symphony Orchestra and the RCMJD Symphony Orchestra. She is also a member of the Chineke! Junior Orchestra, and was principal clarinettist on the Junior Orchestras 2022 European Tour, which opened the Lucerne Festival. A versatile multi-instrumentalist, Amalia also plays the piano, saxophone and flute to an equally high standard, securing her first professional diploma with distinction in Year 10. |
