Formed in 2020, the Hyde Clarinet Quartet is an exciting clarinet group formed of current RCM students. They perform regularly as part of the RCM community, both internally at open days and- concerts, and at external venues such as St Mary Abbots Church, and the Dangoor Plaza as part of the Great Exhibition Road Festival. They have had the opportunity to partake in coachings with esteemed clarinettists Richard Hosford, Timothy Lines and Peter Sparks, as well as highly regarded musicians Simon Channing and Wouter Verschuren.
The Hyde Quartet are dedicated to performing new works, as well as exploring the diversity of the clarinet. They have recently premiered two commissions, which they are excited to add to the ever-growing list of clarinet quartet repertoire. They have also recorded music for composer Jack Ledger-Dowse, whose piece The Spring helped them win the June Emerson Music Launchpad Prize 2022.
The Hyde Quartet have had an exciting few months, with performances at The Crypt at St. Johns Smith Square, as well as performing in the semi-final of the Royal Overseas League competition. The quartet have received the Boconnoc Award from the RCM, where they will perform concerts in the Boconnoc House on their chamber residency. The quartet are grateful to have had the opportunity to share music with children in primary schools across the south of England, and hope to continue inspiring young musicians to participate and listen to a variety of music. |
