Performance Notes | Due to scheduling difficulties, Nathalie Stutzmann is no longer able to conduct the National Youth Orchestra in Prom 30 at the 2024 BBC Proms. This concert will be conducted by Alexandre Bloch and Tess Jackson.
Gustav Mahler poured his life into his symphonies, right from the very beginning. His Symphony No. 1 takes us through the wonder of nature and the pain of anguish. Simple tunes and folksy rhythms drive the work from despair to hope to blazing triumph.
Performing the symphony is The National Youth Orchestra, comprising some of Britains most talented young players. Under conductor Alexandre Bloch, they also bring with them Missy Mazzolis reflection on time, Orpheus Undone, Wagners most storm-tossed overture and a new work by the orchestras Resident Artist Dani Howard, written in celebration of the NYO Inspire scheme.
Broadcast live on BBC Radio 3. Broadcast on BBC Four and BBC iPlayer this season. |
